What to Expect in a Boat Crew Role:

Boat Crew is a unique job on the water with a hardworking team and great guests. You’ll help keep each cruise running smoothly, safely, and create great vibes from start to finish. This is a fast-paced role that requires reliability, flexibility, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.

Because we operate on the river, schedules can shift due to weather and bookings, so being adaptable is a must, and being on time is essential. We’re looking for proactive team members who like to stay productive and can shift gears between busy “work mode” behind the scenes and chill “showtime” energy with guests.  Most importantly, this job is personally rewarding, and you’ll be part of moments that really matter – birthdays, reunions, wedding parties, visitors experiencing Portland from the water, and everyday cruises that turn into unforgettable memories.

More Detail on What You’ll Do:

  • Stock supplies, reset the boat, clean, and keep things organized
  • Welcome guests, manage check-in, and help passengers board safely
  • Serve food and beverages and process payments using Square POS
  • Make announcements, facilitate games/activities, and keep guests engaged
  • Maintain a safe, dynamic, fun environment from start to finish
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the cruise (bar area, tables, trash, etc.)
  • Clean and maintain the restroom/toilet before, during, and after cruises
  • Assist with docking before/after cruises (requires agility and confidence stepping between boat and dock)
  • Support the Captain with safety procedures and basic boat operations as needed
  • Assist with photos/videos and social media content when appropriate

Personal Qualities We’re Looking For:

  • Friendly, reliable, outgoing, and great with customers
  • Comfortable working outdoors + on the water in all weather
  • Good balance, able to lift up to 50 lbs and stay active for long shifts
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and keeping energy positive
  • Team player who can switch between tasks quickly

Employment Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license + reliable transportation (Age 21+ preferred)
  • OLCC Permit & Oregon Boater Card (must have or obtain before first shift)
  • CPR/First Aid and Food Handler’s Card preferred – may be required
  • Follow company policies including random drug testing

Ideal fit: This role is best for someone who can complete work independently but also function well in a distracting environment, likes to stay productive at all times, and is a pleasant support person for the owners and team.  A positive, can-do attitude is not a plus, it’s a must!

Company Culture:
At Island Style Charters, we bring the aloha spirit to every cruise through warm welcomes, great teamwork, and positive energy. Our work is hands-on and guest-focused, and we value reliability, clear communication, and safety on the water. If you love hospitality and enjoy working with people, you’ll fit right in.
